…but we get up

I was pushed hard so that I was falling but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation. Psalm 118:13-14 (ESV)

I love the song by Donnie McClurkin ”..we fall down …but we get up”. The other day, my family and I were studying Luke 8 as we are currently doing the New Christmas Tradition which is studying the book of Luke from December 1st and by Christmas Eve one would have read the entire account of Jesus’s life. We intend to do this every Christmas and it is not too late for you to start either. So, we came to the Parable of the Sower where Chris and I asked the children a few questions as usual.

The answers we hear sometimes, I tell you children come up with the most interesting answers especially when relating them with modern technology. Lord help us to be creative so we can teach our children with relevance. Anyway, this time I asked them to explain to me vs 8 which is about the seed on fertile soil. Then I caught my middle child, Oluchi pointing at me and asked her why. She responded saying that Chris and I demonstrate the good soil and that we do cling to the Word of God as described in verse 15.

I chuckled and explained that it wasn’t always that way and we are still trying to work at it. But that is what every Christian should aspire to be and do. Now, it warmed my heart that our children could see us that way. However, it also challenged us because it is not just about holding to the Word of God but we must experience the results also. I certainly didn’t feel at the time that I was seeing the required results. Luke 8:15 states that “And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it AND PATIENTLY PRODUCE A HUGE HARVEST. Most times, we Christians forget that part of being patient. And then in order to help God, we start to engage Plan B. And when that doesn’t work….Plan C until we become disillusioned and all.

And then if you are waiting, it is taking all and more from you to be in that state and at peace. Remember Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief (KJV). It is also extremely difficult to wait patiently when everything seems not to be working around you. You have been waiting for a job over 6 months, or for complete healing, or to have a child or to meet your spouse. Then we feel so faint that we question our faith, or lose hope. I have good news for you. It doesn’t matter if you feel faint or lose hope so many times. What matters is that you get back on your feet again. And the sooner, the better for you. At the time we were studying Luke 8, I wasn’t particularly in a good place, but my daughter’s remark brought me back to where I should be headed. I was challenged enough to work at holding on to God’s word so that I am not only reaping a good harvest but my children see their parents reap a good harvest.

You may fall down …but get up my friend! You may feel faint… but be strengthened! You may feel disappointed… but encourage yourself in the Lord. God does not judge our weak moments. He is there extending His hand to us all the time. He wants us to get stronger. Hence, back to dwelling in the Word, listening to the Word for those are the keys.

So, speak to that situation. Declare to it Micah 7:8 “do not gloat over me.. ‘this situation’(call it by its name). For though I fall, I will rise again. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light. It doesn’t matter how many times, keep doing it. As it is written in Proverbs 24:16a “For though a righteous man falls seven times, he will rise again.

See yourself rise and you will rise!

Deep truth Uzo, it’s when our household see the fruits of our salvation and faith In God in our daily lives are we truly living the life we profess to have received in Christ Jesus. Let’s keep striving towards the mark .
