The Promise Is Now

“For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] “Yes.” So through Him we say our “Amen” to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 AMP

As you look through the Bible you will discover that each period of time had a promise. A promise given to them by God and in which they lived, God fully expecting them to enjoy His promise to the fullest. However, there was also a looking forward to a better one, a better promise from God which did not diminish the goodness of the existing one but created hope and excitement for something even better to come.

Abraham and his descendants had the promise of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. A promise of a good life. God said to them, “Listen obediently, Israel. Do what you’re told so that you’ll have a good life, a life of abundance and bounty, just as GOD promised, in a land abounding in milk and honey. When GOD, your God, ushers you into the land he promised through your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you, you’re going to walk into large, bustling cities you didn’t build, well-furnished houses you didn’t buy, come upon wells you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive orchards you didn’t plant. When you take it all in and settle down, pleased and content, make sure you don’t forget how you got there-GOD brought you out of slavery in Egypt (Deuteronomy 6:3,10-12).” It was such a good promise because God has always wanted the best for His people, distinguishing them from those around them by His goodness and He still does today. As good as this promise was for them then in Canaan there was a greater promise ahead – the promise of the coming Messiah. But they were expected to still enjoy the ‘now promise’ with hope for that which was to come. God said to me, ‘that not enjoying His now promise is actually disobedience to Him.’

The Messiah came, Jesus came, and it must have been outstanding to have lived with Him, to be taught by Him, to eat with Him and to be around Him physically. God Himself in the flesh. John the Baptist pointed to Him. However as much as the disciples loved being with Jesus, He spoke of another better promise to come – the promise of the Holy Spirit. He said, “However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you] – (John 16:7).”

The Holy Spirit, the Comforter has come (Acts 2), He is here now, and we are living in the abundant life promised to us by Jesus, we are living in the season of being in Christ and Christ in us, we are living under a better covenant, a better promise, better than ever before. A period where we get all the blessings of Abraham and the so much more better ones provided to us because of Jesus. It is our now and God wants all His children to enjoy it to the full. Healing is now, prosperity is now, peace is now, the supernatural is now, miracles are now – no wonder the Bible says in Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is.”

God is the one who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment (1 Timothy 6:17). In this new covenant in which we now live, we are encouraged to enjoy God’s blessings, to enjoy our freedom, to enjoy this wonderful new life, to enjoy God’s kingdom and to enjoy the best of Jesus. Paul said, “I pray that you will enjoy the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:13).”

And even now as good as our new life in Christ is and as much as God wants us to enjoy the realities of who we are and what we have in Christ Jesus to the fullest, there is still a better promise of eternal life, eternity with God to come. As all the other promises enjoyed in the goodness of what God had given came to pass, we are assured that eternity with God, the promise of seeing God and being with Him will also come to pass. Each promise was so much better than the last, better and better each time, can you imagine how good eternity with God will be?

Much better than the best experience we are having now!
