Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9

How you see God and what you know about God is important as this will determine how you live out your life of faith in God. It will determine whether you are mostly up or down, and form the basis of how much you trust him. This kind of knowledge is not intellectual rather it is a deep knowledge in our heart based on a choice to believe God and His word. It comes by meditating on the word of God, which is the word of truth.

God chose the Israelites because He loved them. He had just redeemed them from the hand of Pharaoh who had kept them in bondage for many years. Having redeemed them, Moses is encouraging the Israelites to know the Lord their God. In the same manner, Galatians 3:13 says that “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us..” We are delivered from the kingdom of darkness (Col 1:13) and redeemed from the curse of poverty, sickness and death

So we also need to know that the Lord our God is God. He is God and there is no other God besides Him. He is BIG and ALL MIGHTY and able to do all things for His people whom he loves; He is called the FAITHFUL God and He will do everything He has promised to do; He keeps COVENANT and MERCY for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. God is not sentimental about covenant and mercy, He will never break His covenant with us and His word is His covenant. Psalm 89:34 says, “My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.”

In Psalm 136 the words, ‘for his mercy endures forever’ is repeated in every one of the twenty six verses. It emphasises the point that everything God does – His creative power, His delivering power and His redemptive power is because of His enduring mercy towards us. God does not change and His mercy is as real for us today as it has ever been. His mercy is His lovingkindness, goodness, favour and love shown towards us because of His everlasting and eternal covenant which He made with those whom He loves.

Therefore, I want to encourage you to allow this knowledge of your God to be deeply rooted in your heart. It will build your trust in God and continually strengthen you, giving you the faith you need to know that He will always come through for you as He promised in His word because His mercy towards you endures forever.
