O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” Isaiah 40:9 (NKJV)

I was praying this week and I found myself repeating the words ‘ I Behold my God.’ ‘I behold my God in my life, my children, my husband, my ministry, my partners, my church, my finances and all that concerns me.’ The Holy Spirit filled my heart and all I could see was God’s glory, God’s beauty, God’s magnificence, God’s power and God’s grace. I remembered Isaiah saying, “I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and the skirts of His train filled the temple (Isaiah 6:1)”To behold means to observe, to perceive, to gaze upon and to take note of. It is more than a casual look but something or someone you hold your gaze upon for long enough that it starts to change you.

Behold your God! Your God is good, mighty, strong, powerful, incredible and awesome beyond anything you could ever imagine! Behold your God. He is greater than great, stronger than strong, mightier than might and He loves you. You call your God Abba Father and He is the only one with whom nothing is impossible. Beholding your God means to be so awestruck by what He will do for you, that your only response is to worship Him. Behold your God is an invitation to experience the immeasurable depths of who God is.

So what do you see when you behold your God? David beheld his God and said, ‘Behold, God is my helper and ally; the Lord is my upholder and is with them who uphold my life. (Psalm 54:4),’ Job beheld God and after much contemplation he said, ‘Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom. Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him? Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out (Job 36:5,22,26).’

You choose what you behold and how you see with your eyes. What you see and gaze upon will either strengthen your faith or not. Jesus said the light of the body is the eye, and that  if your eye is healthy or sound (seeing like God) then your whole body will be full of light (Matthew 6:22). So choose to Behold your God today, see Him exalted and see Him victorious over all things for you. Behold Him as He is and declare Him as He is, so you can experience Him as He is. It will fill your heart with strength, with hope and with faith. Isaiah 35:4 says, ‘Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold your God! He will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
