God makes a distinction between His people and the world. There is so much mess going on in the world right now that it is possible for the children of God to think that the same things that happen to people in the world will happen to them. It is a lie of the devil so do not be afraid! For throughout the history of the Bible God Almighty has always looked after His own, protected His own and distinguished them from experiencing the same fate as the rest of the world. Satan is the god of this world and he is behind all the evil in the world. BUT we belong to God, in the world but not of the world and called citizens of heaven and members of the household of God (Philippians 3:20; Ephesians 3:19).
In Exodus 10:23 when the plague of darkness (and darkness represents everything evil) was upon Egypt (and Egypt represents the world) so much so that they did not see one another for three days, the bible says, “but all the Israelites had light in their dwellings.” In some developing countries they experience a limited supply of light and so in the nighttime it gets very dark. However sometimes the light is rationed and you may be in one part that is dark (blackout) and looking with great envy at the other section where there is light. I can assure you that light is so much better than darkness.
For the children of God we live in perpetual light because our powerful light source is Jesus and the light that comes from Him shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it (John 1:5). Jesus calls us the light of the world and I believe that it is time we stood up to this by faith expecting our light to distinguish and differentiate us, and attracting those caught in darkness to desire to come into the light because of the unbearable nature of darkness. You and I are different, Yes we are favoured, Yes we are differentiated by God for His goodness because Colossians 1:13 says, “God has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”
God will make a distinction so that all men will know that He is the Lord. It means God will make a difference, He will distinguish you, He will mark you out and He will show you off as being wonderful. You and I should not succumb to the same things the world deals with everyday. You should use the word of God, His promises to stand firm and resist the devil declaring that you are not of this world so nothing of this world can touch you and your family. Psalms 91:7-8 says, “A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked….”
It shall not come near you! It shall not come near you! It shall not come near you! It shall not come near you because you belong to God. So meditate on all of Psalm 91 and speak it over your life, your house and your situation declaring that God has delivered you and therefore darkness has no hold on you.
