But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
I have never liked dark tunnels and caves! I remember when I was working in London, and I had to drive to work through a dark, narrow, single lane and dripping wet tunnel. I did not like it at all and as I approached the tunnel every day, I would sense myself getting more nervous and not looking forward to the experience. Once in the tunnel, I could not wait to see the light ahead indicating to me freedom, life and out of darkness. I can resonate with Isaiah when he says, “the people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined (Is.9:2).”
If you are a Christian, you have seen a great and marvellous light and you are no longer in darkness. In the message bible it says you are God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. God called you out of darkness meaning that before God came into your life everything was dark, you could not see, and you were likely to keep stumbling and falling. In the world today there is so much darkness, the blind leading the blind and things seem to be getting darker. But a relationship with God can change all of that. In Isaiah 42:16 God promised to, “bring the blind by a way that they knew not; to lead them in paths that they have not known: to make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.”
In the beginning of this earth, the bible talks about the deep darkness that was on the earth, described in one translation as an inky blackness. God called light to be out of this darkness and till today the light remains. See yourself walking in light, declare that all around you is light because He called you out of darkness which means you are completely separated from darkness. Darkness represents ungodliness, immorality and everything that is bad and evil. But you are called light and God’s light is shining in your heart. 2 Corinthians 4:6 says, “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” This world needs this light so let it shine so brightly.
Declare light around you and your family, and do not allow an inkling of darkness. In the same way God commanded light to shine, you command light to shine everyday knowing the bible says in John 1:5, “the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it.”
God has called you out of darkness so command light to be!
